Green refurbishment: gathering evidence for a nationwide delivery
nrc_headerThe National Refurbishment Centre is from the Energy Saving Trust, with partners from across the sector. Its aim is to provide evidence and knowledge that support a step-change in the delivery of green refurbishment and retrofit on a nationwide scale.

With energy bills rising and the UK committed to reducing overall CO2 emissions by 80% by 2050, it is critical that our existing buildings – among the oldest in Europe – are made more energy-efficient. Nevertheless, understanding how to deliver a national sustainable refurbishment programme remains elusive.
An evidence hub
To this end, the National Refurbishment is gathering data from a network of refurbishment exemplars to help those delivering refurbishment to understand the most effective measures available. It will also help industry and government to understand the barriers to mass-scale refurbishment and retrofit.

The National Refurbishment Centre has developed the online Refurbishment Portal tool, to hold up to 500 existing sustainable refurbishment best practice case studies and allow individuals to upload their own refurbishment case studies.

The Refurbishment Portal is accessed through the National Refurbishment Centre’s website,  https://www.rethinkingrefurbishment.com/, which has links to reports and best practice guides on all aspects of refurbishment, including its own state-of-the-nation report on industry attitudes to mass-refurbishment and on-going ‘Knowledge Papers’.
Providing leadership
The National Refurbishment Centre brings together the widest range of partners and aims to give the sector a stronger voice as well as increasing awareness among the small building contractors who form the backbone of refurbishment delivery.
