BIM adoption within the UK will affect construction product manufacturers, as they will need to make their products easily available to architects/designers and contractors via BIM libraries.

Currently there are multiple libraries, within the UK and internationally and many Architects, Engineers, Contractors and clients use their own libraries. Coupled with this the Manufactures must also make their product information available in different data formats in order to meet the needs of the various proprietary BIM software vendors.

As well as the issues related to BIM libraries there is also the issue of the classification of the products. There is currently no standard classification system that the industry uses, which is therefore creating confusion within the AEC industry

The event will look at the requirements for Construction Product Manufactures in relation to libraries, data formats and classification. It will be delivered by different people within the supply chain, such as clients, designers, contractors and product manufactures. It will also investigate how it can be made simpler via the open BuildingSMART data dictionary.
