Does your Waste Site meet the latest requirements of the Environment Agency Fire Prevention Plan?

Over the last few years we have seen an increase in the number of large waste recycling site fires, often as a result of self-heating.  The Environment Agency, with the help of BRE, has just published a new Fire Prevention Plan guidance document as part of a waste site operator permit.  It requires strict limits on waste pile sizes to reduce the risk of self-heating which may be difficult to achieve for many.

To support waste site operators BRE has developed a one day training course to enable you to produce a compliant Fire Prevention Plan to meet the new guidance.

    We can help you understand:

    • Fire legislation
    • What the FPP guidance requires
    • What your Fire Prevention Plan needs to include

You will be made aware of the methods that can be used to enable you to justify to the Environment Agency storing larger waste piles in closer proximity, above and beyond the limits set out in the guidance if necessary.

The course will advise on fire safety engineering techniques and material self-heating tests available to demonstrate to the Environment Agency that you can potentially safely store more than the guidance limits.

As well as working closely with the Environment Agency, BRE has been at the forefront in developing these techniques from many years of research and has worked with a number of waste site operators to reduce their risks and ensure they meet the legislative requirements.
