Challenge

Established in 1995, Waldeck is an award-winning consultancy experienced in construction and asset management. With 100 employees, they offer multidisciplinary solutions within six key disciplines: Architecture; BIM Consultancy; Civil and Structural Engineering; Commercial and Risk Management; Digital Capture; Mechanical, Electrical and Building Services Design.

BIM is a core part of ‘what they do’, and Waldeck has held BIM Level 2 Business Systems Certification since 2017. Since then, they have been readying themselves to make the transition to ISO 19650-2. Waldeck was keen to meet the highest level of BIM certification, to demonstrate internal competence and instil confidence in their clients.

BRE Global ISO 19650-2:2018 certification scheme benefits organisations by ensuring capability and competency, helping them to demonstrate compliance to ISO 19650-2:2018. Commenting on behalf of Waldeck, Veronica Ruby-Lewis said, “Waldeck has been successfully delivering projects following PAS 1192-2 for many years and have held BIM Level 2 Business Systems Certification since 2017. We are thrilled to have achieved certification across our office and staff base.”

What was done

The certification process began in early 2021. Having held PAS 1192-2 BIM Certification Scheme for Businesses for many years, Waldeck already had much of the required documentation in place. The documents needed updating to encompass ISO terminology and restructuring/expanding upon areas to cover BRE scheme requirements.

Having submitted their BIM Standards, Methods and Procedures, BIM documentation and templates, the next step was the assessment from BRE’s expert auditors. Audits of Waldeck’s processes, undertaken remotely due to the global pandemic, allowed BRE to assess Waldeck’s information management process through appointments. Veronica Ruby-Lewis said, “As with previous audits, BRE were comprehensive when reviewing both organisational and project documentation which further bolsters the continuation upholding of our certification”.

By July 2021, the assessment process was complete, and shortly after, Waldeck had achieved ISO 19650-2 certification.

Project outcome

Achieving ISO 19650-2 certification requires a commitment to delivering excellence from across the organisation, which was evident in Waldeck’s accomplishment. Veronica Ruby-Lewis said, “I would like to thank the entire Waldeck team as gaining this certification in such a challenging 18 months is a testament to the team’s collaborative approach whilst ensuring adherence to the companies processes and protocols is maintained.”

Next steps

Waldeck chose BRE for certification because it provides a more in-depth and rigorous approach, enhancing the processes and procedures that underpin Waldeck’s BIM delivery and increasing productivity and collaboration when working within BIM projects. Waldeck was pleased with how BRE communicated the overall process and requirements and how well-managed the certification process was. Waldeck will continue to work collaboratively with its clients to deliver sustainable and innovative solutions across the built environment.

I would like to thank the entire Waldeck team as gaining this certification in such a challenging 18 months is a testament to the team’s collaborative approach whilst ensuring adherence to the companies processes and protocols is maintained.

BIM certification

Our scheme certifies an organisations’ capability to input into the Information Management process for the delivery phase of appointments (e.g. projects) and produce outputs from that process.

Certification helps the supply chain demonstrate conformance to ISO 19650-2:2018, accelerating innovation and collaboration of clients and project teams.
